Making Gold with our WoW Herbalism Guide
Why is Herbalism Important in World of Warcraft?
The first thing to understand when deciding on making gold in World of Warcraft with Herbalism is why is this profession actually important and what exactly generates the gold? Well, let’s start like this!
Herbalism is a necessary gathering profession for two other crafting professions – Alchemy and Inscription. Each of these two is responsible for creating necessary items that benefit all aspects of World of Warcraft: Raiding, Mythic plus dungeons, Torghast, Battlegrounds, and everything in between.
Alchemy creates valuable potions and flasks that increase various stats like strength, intellect, and stamina. They aren’t just a luxury, but mandatory consumables for defeating the game’s content on any higher difficulty. So, people seek them all the time!
And Inscription crafts many different items, including trinkets and missives. In Shadowlands, all crafted gear (from the other professions like Blacksmithing or Leatherworking) comes with random stats. So, the missives from Inscription are used by the gear crafters to set the exact stats they want for a particular piece of gear. And trinkets like the [Darkmoon Deck: Putrescence] are the go-to trinkets for all newly leveled characters and alts in the expansion. These items are 200 item level pieces, so don’t expect them to go out of fashion any time soon.
But, that isn’t all! Both Alchemy and Inscription play their part in creating Legendary Items by providing materials and regents. And Legendaries are a core feature in WoW Shadowlands, so these professions are high in demand!
In short, the primary supplier of materials for Alchemy and Inscription is Herbalism. Their recipes require a big quantity of herbs to be created, so the Herbalism materials will always be needed. The various herbs can be found in each of the four zones in Shadowlands, so no matter which one you choose, you’ll still be very profitable!

Shadowlands WoW Herbalism Guide Trainer Location in Oribos
The first thing to do if you want to give Herbalism a try is to pick up the actual profession. You don’t need any previous experience with Herbalism from any other expansion, so just head over to Oribos.
The Herbalism trainer there is called Selector Au’Mar and the exact coordinates are 40,39. He can be found standing in the second section (counting from the left side) of the Hall of Shapes in Oribos, next to magical plants and flowers. And all you need to do is talk to Selector Au’Mar and learn the Shadowlands Herbalism 1-150 for a cheap price. This will allow you to see and gather herbs in all zones in the Shadowlands.
The exact location of the Herbalism trainer in Oribos is shown in this picture:
Preparations for Herbalism
Tools and Enchants
After you’ve learned the Shadowlands Herbalism profession, the best thing to do is to pick up the [Flora Extraction Tool] item. This is a simple but helpful addition that gives you +10 Herbalism skill while you still level up the profession. It isn’t a mandatory item, but it’s very cheap and it lowers the time needed to get Herbalism to the max level. The item can be purchased from Distributor Au’til in Oribos, who stands opposite of Selector Au’mar.
Now, the [Shadowlands Gathering] enchant is considered a must-have for all gathering professions, including Herbalism. It is a very cheap and accessible enchant that boosts your gathering speed. And if you’ve ever considered spending even an hour farming herbs, then know that this enchant will double the number of herbs you can pick up. Without it, the farming gold with Herbalism feels sluggish and boring, so we recommend always using it!
Classes do play a part when it comes to making gold in World of Warcraft. For Herbalism specifically, as with the other gathering professions, you want a class that is naturally very fast and mobile. Our favorite pick is always a Druid since not only do you get to pick up herbs while in [Travel Form] and [Flight Form], but also because you can go use the tank specialization, Guardian.
If you didn’t know, tanks in World of Warcraft are restricted to the dazed and dismount effect that mobs occasionally deal to players. This simply means that a tank gatherer won’t ever be stopped from farming his herbs. And because of this, it might be harder for some classes that don’t have tank specializations to farm as efficiently as the Druid. However, if you aren’t playing a Druid and don’t have the time to level up one, here are a couple of other things you can do.

[Comfortable Rider’s Barding] is a quick fix to this problem. It is a mount equipment that you can buy for 2000-3000 gold and it will allow you to pass groups of mobs without being dazed or dismounted. Another solution is to use the [Sky Golem] mount. This is a creation from the Engineering profession that has this effect built-in already. Plus, it is a flying mount that will become increasingly valuable when Blizzard unlocks the ability for us to fly in the Shadowlands.
And as for the last bits of preparation, we recommend getting some big bags! Herbalism is a profession known to fill your inventory pretty quickly, so having smaller bags will only slow you down. We suggest purchasing 4 [Deep Sea Bag] since they’re the cheapest and most affordable big bags on the market. You can find them at the Auction Hosue for only 100-300 gold each.
What Can You Do with Herbalism in WoW Shadowlands?
Shadowlands Herbalism Materials
The herbs in Shadowlands are structured in a precise way that you need to understand before you set off to farm them. The first thing to get clear is that every zone has one specific herb to itself that you can’t find any other location. Rising Glory, for example, is the specific herb found in Bastion and it doesn’t appear anywhere else.
Next, the Death Blossom herb can be found in all four zones in Shadowlands, but not The Maw. However, Death Blossom changes its appearance from location to location. And the herb’s model in Bastion a light blue one; in Ardenweald it’s of a violet color and in Maldraxxus green. So don’t be confused by its appearance because it is one and the same material.
And lastly, the Nightshade herb can spawn anywhere in the world and you can farm it with every route.
- Rising Glory – Gathered in Bastion.
- Vigil’s Torch – Gathered in Ardenweald.
- Widowbloom – Gathered in Revendreth.
- Marrowroot – Gathered in Maldraxxus.
- Death Blossom – Gathered in Bastion, Ardenweald, Revendreth, and Maldraxxus.
- Nightshade – Gathered in Bastion, Ardenweald, Revendreth, Maldraxxus, and The Maw.
Shadowlands WoW Herbalism Guide Materials Uses
Now, the Herbalism profession is best paired with either Alchemy or Inscription. That way, you can collect the required materials for yourself and not spend any gold while leveling up those professions. However, if you don’t want to do that, then your only option is to sell the Herbalism materials on the Auction House. That’s an extremely profitable strategy because the herbs are in such high demand that you’ll get your gold in just a few hours.
In that case, though, we strongly recommend you to take up either Mining or Skinning as a second gathering profession. This will give you optimal results because you’ll ultimately farm two professions at the same time. A lot of herbs are next to ores, and many ores and herbs are guarded by groups of beasts that you must slay in order to pick up the material. So needless to say, two gathering professions can an efficient gold farmer and thus double your profit.

WoW Herbalism Guide in Shadowlands – Locations and Routes
Bastion Route 1
The first route we recommend you to try out is long one around the bottom half of Bastion. You’ll generally want to take big cruises around Hero’s Rest along the line we’ve marked below. Note that you don’t have to follow it strictly, since a lot of spawns are scattered left and right.
Bastion Route 2
This is a shorter version of the previous Herbalism route through Bastion. The idea here is to farm as much individual herbs as possible in the shortest amount of time. In Bastion, you’ll find the highest number of herbs around Hero’s Rest, so it’s wise to check all paths available.
Ardenweald Route 1
The first route we’ve tried in Ardenweald is this one. This whole zone can be a profitable Herbalism run but we’ve narrowed it down to the most optimal path that you can follow from beginning to end. You’ll primarily gather Vigil’s Torch, along with Death Blossom and Nightshade.
Ardenweald Route 2
And here we’ve marked the highest-profitable Herbalism spots in Ardenweald. If there isn’t too much competition and you’re on a low-pop server, you can continually farm these locations without a problem. Herbs spawn all the time and you can gather them pretty easily.
Revendreth Route 1
In Revendreth, you can farm the biggest number of Widowbloom along its center. This marked line will take you through the thickest spawn locations. Just keep your eyes open for herbs spawning left and right, since they won’t always be laid in front of you.
Revendreth Route 2
And here we have a shorter run that focuses on the southern part of Revendreth. Because Castle Nathria takes such a big part of this zone, many herbs and ores are constantly spawning here. And you’ll want to check this bottom half on a regular basis because most people are focused on Castle Nathria.
Maldraxxus Route 1
In Maldraxxus, you’ll find the most amount of Marrowroot, Death Blossom, and Nightshade around Theater of Pain. The route we’ve marked here is a profitable one, but know that you should make excursions since every corner of this zone can hide numerous spawns.
Maldraxxus Route 2
And here is another version that shows you how to take optional paths in the Maldraxxus Herbalism route. Our last advice here is to focus on the northern half of the map and avoid the southern one. Houses of Plagues for example is swamped in ooze, so there won’t be too many herbs spawning there.
