The Best WoW Shadowlands Legendaries for Demon Hunter

by Zaraki Kenpachi

Hello! In this guide, you will find the best Demon Hunter Shadowlands Legendaries. Here we will talk about which Shadowlands Legendaries you should prioritize as a Demon Hunter. There are a couple of Legendary effects that make this class viable, so you want to have the right ones heading into raiding, mythic plus, or PvP. We’ll also explain how to utilize each and every one of these Legendaries so you get the best results!

But if you’re playing the game for performance and results only, know that this class isn’t the best for it. Currently, the Havoc Demon Hunter specialization is considered somewhere in the B tier. This is due to the Shadowlands nerfs that pushed Demon Hunters down the ladder. The Vengeance specialization, on the other hand, is in the S tier and held by many to be the absolute best tank in Castle Nathria. However, if you choose the right Legendaries, you can certainly make the Demon Hunter class work in Shadowlands!

Now let’s check the best Shadowlands Legendaries for Demon Hunter and what they add to your kit!

Our Guide on the Best WoW Shadowlands Legendaries for the Demon Hunter class.

How to Get Legendaries in Shadowlands?

If you’ve just tuned in to the Shadowlands expansion, you might be confused by all the “Legendary Items” talk. But don’t worry! Here is everything you need to know about Legendaries in WoW Shadowalnds!

Legendaries are powerful items that you craft and upgrade for yourself. Every Legendary starts as a “Legendary Power” or a “Legendary Memory”. And you collect these powers or memories from various types of content in the game. For example, one Legendary Power can be looted from a raid boss, a second purchased from a PvP vendor, and a third by completing a quest. Every class has its own Legendaries in Shadowlands, including the Demon Hunter. And these can be tracked through the “Powers” tab in the “Adventure Guide” while in-game!

Once a memory/power is collected, it can be brought to the Runecarver inside Torghast, Tower of the Damned. You will also be required to bring a Base Item (professions), two Missives (Inscription), and 1250 Soul Ash (Torghast). And only then, the Runecarver will craft the Legendary Item for you.

All Legendaries have 4 ranks. This means that you can upgrade one Legendary a maximum of 3 times. Every rank increases the base stats of the item, as well as the item level itself. For example, a rank 1 Legendary is 190 ilvl while rank 4 is 235 ilvl.

As far as the categorization of the Legendary Items in this expansion, they can either be general, meaning available for all classes in the game. On the other hand, we have Legendaries that can be used by only one class, regardless of the specialization. But there are also powers that restricted to only one spec of a class.

Havoc Demon Hunter Best Shadowlands Legendaries

The Best Shadowlands Legendary for Havoc Demon Hunter

Legendary Item - Burning Wound

Burning Wound: Demon’s Bite leaves an open wound on your enemy dealing (100% of Attack power) Chaos damage over 15 sec and increasing damage taken from your Immolation Aura by 65%.
Runecarve on: Chest, Back
Source: Dungeon Drop: The Manastorms

If you’re looking for the absolute best performance, craft Burning Wound first. Compared to the other Shadowlands Legendaries for Demon Hunter, this is the highest DPS choice in terms of numbers. The way it works is by first using your [Demon’s Bite] basic ability. Then you want to follow this up with your [Immolation Aura]. And this ramp up your damage immediately!

But the best thing about Burning Wound is that you can maintain a 100% uptime on the effect. The Legendary doesn’t have any internal cooldown. This means that every time Immolation Aura comes off of cooldown, you can proc the effect. Burning Wound is the highest-hitting power for single-target fights!

The Best Alternative Choices of Shadowlands Legendaries for Havoc Demon Hunter

Legendary Item - Darkglare Boon

Darkglare Boon: Havoc: Eye Beam has a 40% chance to not incur its cooldown and refund 30 Fury. Vengeance: Fel Devastation has a 40% chance to not incur its cooldown and refund 50 Fury.
Runecarve on: Neck, Waist
Source: Dungeon Drop: Margrave Stradama

Those who don’t like to depend on Immolation Aura to be their primary damage dealer should craft Darkglare Boon. Even though it got substantially nerfed, [Eye Beam] is still one of our hardest-hitting buttons in the game. And with this Legendary, you will get to use Eye Beam much more often. The only downside here is that the effect depends on RNG. And sometimes it can take 3 to 4 Eye Beams to proc its effect.

Legendary Item - Chaos Theory

Chaos Theory: Blade Dance has a 30% chance to grant you Chaotic Blades, increasing the damage of Chaos Strike by 50% and its chance to refund Fury by an additional 60% for 8 sec.
Runecarve on: Waist, Hands
Source: Raid Drop: Sire Denathrius

At the start of Shadowlands, Chaos Theory was considered one of the best Legendaries for Demon Hunter. However, it quickly faded due to it not having any significant synergies with the covenant spells or the talent builds. But, the fact remains that [Chaos Strike] is our main damage dealer and Fury spender, so boosting its power is always a good choice.

The Best PvP Shadowlands Legendaries for Havoc Demon Hunter

Legendary Item - Darkest Hour

Darkest Hour: You automatically trigger Darkness when you fall below 35% health. This effect can only occur once every 2 min.
Runecarve on: Chest, Legs
Source: Purchased for Honor from Purveyor Zo’kuul. Must have Runecarving unlocked to purchase this memory.

Besides the damage, Blizzard greatly nerfed the survivability of Demon Hunters heading into this expansion. This had a massive impact on the PvP performance of the class, where it’s almost non-existent. On top of that, the meta is very bursty and cooldown-depended, which also doesn’t favor Demon Hunters.

Well, Darkest Hour is a fantastic addition to your defensiveness. It should always be combined with the PvP talent [Cover of Darkness], which improves your [Darkness]. Darkest Hour will help you survive those instant bursts against Rogues, Mages, and Druids. But the reason why you should take it in Arena is because Darkest Hour doesn’t impact the cooldown of your Darkness. So, you can use one after the other!

Vengeance Demon Hunter Best Shadowlands Legendaries

Legendary Item - Fiery Soul

Fiery Soul: Each Soul Fragment consumed by Soul Cleave reduces the cooldown of Fiery Brand by 2 sec.
Runecarve on: Wrist, Hands
Source: Drop: Torghast, Tower of the Damned. The Soulforges, Layer 3+

On the performance charts for Vengeance Demon Hunter, Fiery Soul beats almost all other Shadowlands Legendaries for this class. [Fiery Brand] is one of our most important damage-mitigation tools. With Fiery Soul, each time you use your [Soul Cleave] you will also lower the cooldown of Fiery Brand by 2 seconds. This is a great defensive option, especially if your gear isn’t high enough.

Vengeance Demon Hunter in Shadowlands

The Best Alternative Choices of Shadowlands Legendaries for Vengeance Demon Hunter

Legendary Item - Razelikh's Defilement

Razelikh’s Defilement: Soul Cleave reduces the remaining cooldown on a random Sigil by 8 sec or Elysian Decree by 2 sec.
Runecarve on: Legs, Wrist
Source: Dungeon Drop: Xav the Unfallen

Razelikh’s Defilement is often looked as the absolute best among the Vengeance Demon Hunter Shadowlands Legendaries. And that’s true, but only if you’re Kyrian. Rzelikh’s Defilement lowers the cooldown of your Sigils, which is extremely good. But the real value here is your [Elysian Decree]. This is a very potent single-target and AoE damaging ability. So if you like to be an offensive DH tank, then go for Kyrian and Razelikh’s Defilement.

Legendary Item - Fel Flame Fortification

Fel Flame Fortification: You take 15% reduced magic damage while Immolation Aura is active.
Runecarve on: Waist, Finger
Source: Raid Drop: Lady Inerva Darkvein

But Fel Flame Fortification is another super defensive choice that you should consider. True, it only grants magic damage reduction, but it’s still very valuable because a large part of your enemies in Shadowlands actually deal Shadow damage. Of course, Immolation Aura is a low-cooldown spell, so you will have a lot of benefit from this Legendary.

Great Legendaries for Both Specialization

Legendary Item - Darkglare Boon

Darkglare Boon: Havoc: Eye Beam has a 40% chance to not incur its cooldown and refund 30 Fury. Vengeance: Fel Devastation has a 40% chance to not incur its cooldown and refund 50 Fury.
Runecarve on: Neck, Waist
Source: Dungeon Drop: Margrave Stradama

We gave Darkglare Boon a spotlight in the Havoc Demon Hunter section. However, this Legendary is the go-to choice if you’re rocking both the Havoc and the Vengeance specializations. The effect it provides is the same no matter which spec you’re currently in and it’s tied to two key abilities [Eye Beam] and [Fel Devastation]. And since you’re using both on cooldown, you will get a lot of value out of Darkglare Boon.

Legendary Item - Collective Anguish

Collective Anguish: Havoc: Casting Eye Beam summons an allied Vengeance Demon Hunter who casts Fel Devastation. Vengeance: Casting Fel Devastation summons an allied Havoc Demon Hunter who casts Eye Beam.
Runecarve on: Wrist, Back
Source: Raid Drop: Stone Legion Generals

And the other amazing Legendary for dual-spec is Collective Anguish. It makes for a very interesting playstyle where you summon another Demon Hunter to perform a spell from the opposite spec. Collective Anguish is still the best mythic plus option for DH because of the raw AoE power of this item.

Legendary Item - Fel Bombardment

Fel Bombardment: Immolation Aura damage has a chance to grant you a stack of Fel Bombardment, increasing the damage that your next Throw Glaive deals to your primary target by 50% and launching an additional glaive at a nearby target. This effect stacks up to 5 times.
Runecarve on: Head, Shoulder

And lastly, we have Fel Bombardment. This is a bit of an untraditional effect, but a very powerful one. It adds [Throw Glaive] into your regular rotation and makes hit harder. And its damage is very high.

Are Demon Hunters Good in Shadowlands?

By now, everybody has accepted that Demon Hunters aren’t as strong as in BFA or Legion. And we can clearly see that most of the other classes got the better end of the deal in Shadowlands. Many of the Legendary Powers for Demon Hunter are simply pointless. And the design behind them feels “lazy”.

In terms of raiding, Havoc Demon Hunter is currently ranked in the 9th place B tier. That’s certainly not the worst news, but the class is far far from the best. In mythic plus, the situation is the kind of similar, with no Demon Hunters appearing in MDI. And as far as the PvP goes, we mentioned above that this class isn’t performing well.

However, Blizzard recently introduced a number of buffs, including damage increases to both [Chaos Strike] and [Demon’s Bite]. And while this probably won’t be the change that will fix the DH class, it’s certainly very welcomed.

As you can see, some of the Shadowlands Legendaries can really help out the Demon Hunter class. But at the same time they lack any real synergy with the four covenant abilities. This means that you can certainly succeed as a DH in this expansion, but not as easy as with other classes.

And as for the covenants themselves, Blizzard failed to find one for both Havoc and Vengeance. A very big portion of Havoc players are in Night Fae, while the Vengeance ones are in Kyrian. And it’s a shame because these two specs are very similar and offer a very engaging playstyle. But, we will have to wait and see if Blizzard will address the internal problems of Demon Hunters in Shadowlands!

Conlcusion

While it may not be the strongest choice in this expansion, Demon Hunter is a very rewarding class to play in WoW. Incredible mobility, reliable damage, and AoE crowd control, are just parts of what the class offers. We recommend it to all new and returning players to give it a shot!

And to summarize, craft these Legendaries:

  • Burning Wound – Havoc.
  • Fiery Soul – Vengeance.
  • Darkglare Boon / Collective Anguish – Havoc and Vengeance.
